How to turn your old, broken iPod into a portable stash spot.

Meterials I used: Tiny screw driver, tweezers, scissors, and super glue.

Start with your broken, old iPod.

Spoiler for Image:

Now, one of the hardest parts. Get it open. The method I used was taking a pair of small scissors and prying it open. If you can find an easier way, good job, I couldn't.

Here is what you will have.

Now, take this thing out. I took a pair of tweezers and just ripped it out. You don't need to be careful, pretty much everything is coming out.

Here is what you should have now.

See these black screws? Find whatever you can and unscrew them. There should be either 4 or 6, I don't remember. All the screws on this side of the iPod need to come out. Toss the screws into the trash, you don't need them anymore.

Take out all this green motherboard crap and throw it away. It should all come out in one or two pieces.

Here is what you have now. Rip out that orange thing and throw it away.

The LCD screen is going to come off. You need to glue it in place. Go light on the glue or else you will see it on the outside. Not a big deal, just depends on how careful you want to be.

Now, the other half of the iPod.

See these screws? DO NOT TAKE THEM OUT, LEAVE THIS PIECE IN OR ELSE YOU WILL HAVE HOLES WHERE THE HEADPHONE JACK IS.

Take the hard drive disc and glue it onto the bottom here. This is optional. By glueing in the hard drive disc, you will lose a lot of space, but, it will weigh like normal so if someone picks it up, it will feel normal. The hard drive disc weighs 90g. I went to a hobby shop to get deadweights that weigh 90g, but they were bigger than the hard drive disc, so it isn't worth it.

If you are going to glue it in, do it like this.

There you go. You have a little bit of space to put any small contraband items that you may have. It isn't that much space, but if you are super paranoid it is totally worth it.

The only downside is that it is a pain in the ass to open, but hey, nobody will ever think to rip apart an iPod to check for contraband if they are searching you. Especially if you have some headphones wrapped around it.

Enjoy! If anyone finds an easy way to pry it open, let's hear it!

Because this is such a pain in the ass to open, I suggest not shutting it all the way until *you have to*. It takes a good push to snap it shut all the way, so if you leave it half closed in your pocket, it shouldn't close by itself. If you actually do this, you will see what I mean.

iPods have lots of good technology in them. You could always get it fixed, or even sell some of the components inside. It's not worth it to waste a good £150 worth of technology. It's a good idea though, if your iPod is completely mashed.

Great thread Falc. If I had a broken iPod I would do this without a doubt. I think I know someone with a broken one so I might be able to score it from them.

This is using the old iPods that are not only so outdated, but broken already. There's no point in trying to sell one so someone can fix it, when they can only sell a repaired old ipod with a lot of physical damage for only a couple bucks, maybe 20, so you won't be getting more than $5.

I dunno... I don't really have anything to hide from my parents anymore, they know I smoke pot and I don't need to hide anything. What I used to do, though, was I had a computer printer off to the side of my desk that I never used, and I would just lift up the bay where the ink cartridges go and stash everything in there, it was perfect.
I swear, there were times where it would look like my mom or whoever had searched EVERYWHERE and didn't even think to open up the printer... some parents might not even know it opens that way

I have the same kind of iPod and it IS broken. (Damn things break after a while...) Well I am going to try this once I got all the supplies, I'll let you know how it goes. Probably going to keep all my drugs and shit in there half closed, and if a cop happens to show up just snap it shut. Good idea!

I just did this with my 3rd gen ipod. (White one with the 4 buttons on top.)

I just ripped out two things, this big ass blue thing and a small black thing and now I have enough space to fit a tiny bag of pills or coke or whatever in there if I want. It was a bitch to get the shit open but now all I need to do is use a tiny screwdriver to pry the iPod open. Only downside is you can kind of hear the bags shake inside when its shut, if you shake the ipod. I think that might change once its actually got drugs in it though. The other downside I guess is that where I pry it open, it might be kind of suspicious. It does kind of look like I just dropped it though. Anyways, my plan is to keep it popped open a little bit and if I get pulled over or stopped by the po-po, just snap it shut. Oh yeah, I'm going to keep some cheap headphones I don't use wrapped around the ipod so it looks like I actually use it. Cool.

For the hard-to-open part, break off one of the holder things or bend them back the tiniest bit. It helps a lot with the opening part. Careful not to break the majority of them though. They're easy to break off.

pretty clever idea Falc. I would say it would fool a large percentage of police in my area, just not the ones on the block in the hood. I set up a similar stash rig in my vehicle I will have to show you all plans for. I'm very mechanically inclined especially when it comes to electronics and cars...for cars I have a stash setup I'll be running a post on soon that can be applied to all types of situations and is also pretty full proof. My parents were crazy when I lived at home so I've done everything from removing heating vents to transferring ps2 slim internals into a ps2 fat body to create a working large stash box, which kept everything under wraps for years with no problem. It's all about creativity and thinking like the ones trying to find your shit
