    Photo First time grow! PICS

This is my first attempt at doing a grow and I thought I'd share it with you guys. I ordered White Widow feminized seeds and they said I would receive a "freebie" too. I was expecting it to be something dumb, like a keychain or something similar. I sure was wrong! They sent me a whole baggie of seeds that had 15 in it!! They claim to have found all these seeds in their warehouse and are just giving them away. So I have no idea what strain they are. I have 2 of the "freebie" plants going and a White Widow. Let me know what you guys think. Good or bad.

The one with the wide fan leaves is the white widow. Others are the freebies. I'm in the process of moving them to another location. I originally just placed them here while they were seedlings, but time has gotten away from me. They seem to be doing pretty well though considering this is my first grow.

What kind of lights are you using. They look pretty stretched out. Probably want to move the lights closer.

I figured they were. When I transplanted the seedlings into the pots they are in now, the light was in the same spot it is in now. I didn't put it very close to them. Stupid, I know, but noob mistake. And they have never been topped until this week. Again, noob mistake. I'm using a cool white and warm white fluorescent light. I'm using one that goes in the ceiling, I've just got it on a cord that plugs up into the wall. And a brooder heat lamp. The light you see behind the plants is an old plant bulb I had for a terrarium a long time ago. So I threw it in there too. Honestly, they are doing a lot better than I thought they would be at this point. They are really green and are starting to smell a little. I'm looking for some kind of HPS light but I'm not sure what I should get. I've been looking at this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Presssu...item5d2d55c0e1 Does the 400-watt look good? Right now as tall as they are, the lights are right above them. Thanks.

Yea you want those like an inch from the plants, as close as possible.

For an HPS you want 50w per square foot. So a 400W would cover 8 sq ft, what's the dimensions of your space? HPS's generate a lot of heat, so you will likely need some fans, the hood for that light isn't ductable so it's going to be hard to cool that, but air-cooled hoods will cost a bit more.

I'm going to be moving them to inside a closet very soon. So I'll get the measurements and make sure that I've got one big enough. I seen some lights on there with air-cooled hoods. I will more than likely end up going with one of those. Since they are stretched out like you say, will this affect it in the future at all?

It will lower the yield. With a stretched plant the bud sites are way more spaced out. Also stretched plants tend to have weak stems and need to be supported when they get larger.

Heres an example of a stretched plant near harvest time. Notice how the buds don't stack on top of each other to form colas like you normally see, instead theres a single bud every few inches. That's the result of stretching.

Makes perfect sense now. Thanks a ton bro. Is this the starting of a male plant, btw?

Still looks too early to tell. If that little sack gets bigger and starts drooping it's a male, if it pops open and two pistils pop out it's a female.

Took some pics of what my lonely little last plant looks like now. Wish I wouldn't have screwed up and let it stretch, but you live and you learn. And this was a good learning experience. Next time around we should see some good bud. Anyways, here's the pics:

    Flash on:

All the lights you see in ^ are just supplemental lighting for the lower branches. And the branches are curved out like that b/c I supercropped it to try to keep down on the height of the plant. It's growing like crazy!

This was one of the freebie seeds I got. So I have no idea what it is. Don't see any sacks yet, so I think I got the White Widow out early enough. Thanks for checking it out.

question for the people that have had an indoor grow before: Does it make your whole house smell like weed? Or is that just when its drying?

Right now it doesn't really smell, but the white widow i cut down after i dried it out it smelled so good. so i think right before harvest and when drying is the worst. im not 100% sure though.

Depends on the strain. The widow cross I had didn't stink until I harvested it, but the giesel I'm growing now reeks, had to get a carbon filter for flowering.

It does depend on the strain but if you have a few plants your house will stink unless it's in a contained room with a nice carbon filter. When I grew even with just one big plant my entire house stunk like crazy. When I had a bunch it was overwhelming as soon as you walked in the door. I remember my mom smelling it when she was right outside the door(though she just has a crazy good sense of smell, no one else noticed that). It can be deceiving though because if you are living in the house you get used to the smell and don't really smell it anymore. It's not until someone else walks in and comments on it that you realize how strong it smells.

Yeah if I leave the door open to the room I've got mine in, there is a faint scent of it lingering around. that white widow plant even before it was flowering you could smell it so bad. it would have been a stinky ass plant. the last plant that survived of mine just barely has a smell.

Most don't start really smelling until flowering, but once they are in flowering they start to reek. Again depends on the strain but if it's in flowering and it's not smelling much you are probably fucking it up. Since yours is in very early flowering it won't really smell yet but as soon as those calyx's really start to form it will.

Even if you grow weed outside, when it starts to bud it smells like crazy. It could be growing on a couple acres of land and you will be able to smell it when the breeze is blowing. I'm talking about like 30 or so plants, but whatever.. the point is that weed smells like weed when it's growing. I couldn't imagine having even a small scale grow going on in doors if you are living with someone who doesn't smoke or isn't cool with you growing in their house. Unless you're some how able to instal an elaborate ventilation system in your house without anyone noticing...

Just a little update. Everythings going good so far. Or as far as I know anyways. Seems to be growing along just fine. Hoping the buds will get fatter, as this is my first grow, I don't know if my plant looks normal. haha. Pics:

Looks pretty good but awefuly is stretched. Like you said though this is your 1st and everyone has to start somwhere so take this is an experiment and keep on trying, you can expect to get things bang on 1st go. I really would invest into a HPS light though and some feed as this alone boosts growth.

Those really aren't very stretched maybe a little bit but not much. Those buds will all join together and become one big bud by the end as long as there are no problems. He is also definitely using fertilizer or they would dead by now and not looking relatively healthy. Getting a MH/HPS is always a good idea though.

I've used nothing but h20 before on plants and have grown healthy, not as much yield but none the less still will work.

Since the last pics I posted, I have had the light basically touching it. Tried to take care of the stretching while it was still young. There is basically nothing on the lower branches but as you can see, there should be plenty of bud on the main colas. Any clue about how much I can expect outta this ?

I've got 5 white widow seeds that I'm waiting to plant until I get a new good light. This was a great learning process and you all have gave a lot of good info. So thanks! I'll keep some pics coming. Thanks for checking out my thread

Just be careful and make sure the plants don't get too hot. I know you are using CFL's so that's pretty unlikely but just make sure you check how hot it is at canopy level and make sure it's not too high.

As for how much bud? I just looked back at your pictures and realized I completely missed the pictures of the full plant somehow. That is pretty stretched, you should get as much light on the sides as possible. Seriously go buy some more cfl's and macgyver them up all around the plant. The more light on the plant the more yield you get. As of right now I would guess you get around an ounce, maybe an ounce and a half. That's just a guess though and I could be wrong.

Keep posting pictures and progress, I love seeing someone else grow and helping them feels good.
