No surprise. What else do the farmers have to grow besides opium? Their market for regular crops has been fucked up by our invasion so they grow the only thing they can make enough money from to live, opiium is the only thing that makes them decent money. It's not nearly as much as it should be though, they get ripped off in comparison to what that shit is worth. It's supply and demand, in afghanistan there isn't nearly the market and opium/heroin doesn't cost much at all. So the cartels/gangs pay enough for them to want to grow it and make millions by smuggling it into a place where the demand makes them millions off of what actually cost a tiny percentage of that.

I agree completely, it just goes to show how much a failure the war on drugs has been in the UK.

@Renegade, ever look into the bush family's involvement in smuggling cocaine? Interesting stuff.. not to mention our troops patrol the poppy fields in Afghanistan. Now why would they be doing that? Hmmmm....
