I let it sit until the heat from the water stopped creating condensation on the lid of the pan... basically until the water cooled down.
So, for anyone who cares, this summer I've had a lot more time to start messing around with this seriously. My friend and I had a few attempts using reggy "keif" (I say this because the amount he was able to get from reg makes me really think it was more like crystals + plant matter) and some small amounts of dank buds.
With the dank buds, I had done that at my house, tried double (and triple) boiling a bowl. However I strayed from bNs' method because I figured regardless how hot the pan got, the water would control it enough to be sufficiently effective. However I forgot to factor in the fact that boiling water is more like a raging sea; it knocked the bowl around, water bubbled up around it. The end product (after being in the freezer for a good 6+ hours) had pockets of ice in between solidified oil/buddha. Needless to say, even taking the whole shot gave me no significant effects. At the most I'd say it was like taking a shitty hit off a one hitter, while you're having breathing problems.
Our other attempts with keif and small ammounts of dank worked better, but even then my friend and I had to split half the disc to get buzzes. Now I say disc, because we moved from the boiling method to using his crockpot at his place with a small solid shot glass. The crock pot method definitely worked well, but again they could have done better. I was sure dank would be much better, and if we had more patience in letting the oil cook. A lot of the people on the cannabis forums would let their crock pots go all night, cooking anywhere from 6 to 12 hours. However, finals came as did seasonal work in the beginning of the summer so I didn't have the time to fuck with it.
My seasonal work has ended, and I've begun experimenting again. First I went back to the boiling method, but I decided to change one thing. Instead of using a bowl like everyone else had been doing, I used a mason jar. At first I was just thinking it would do better just for the fact it would keep water away from the oil, but after researching a company called Cannabrex, who sells THC pill kits (just add your own green), I found out they also used mason jars and just recommended a quick (~30 min) boil bath for it. On top of keeping the water out of the mixtures, I feel the lid also keeps the thc and smell trapped. I say smell, because my roommate is big bitch, and thinks she will get a felony charge if i have anything pot related in my room.
So, even though cannabrex also sells a buncha powders and stuff to "potentiate" and speed up the pills effects, I went forward with the boiling using the mason jar, because I was going to be out of town for the 4th of July and I've been having horrible backpains, which I've been smoking for. And i'll be damned, the motherfuckers worked. Now, I used too much oil, because the mason jar I had was weird. It had a big upward curve in the bottom of it, so I added more oil so no bud would be on its own, just straight up sitting on glass, but they worked. One pill was equivalent to getting a few hits deep in a bowl and feeling that initial body vibe, and having the relaxed feeling for a good couple of hours. Two was muuuch more relaxed. I wish I could say more, but I gave em all away to get more reactions from people. Most people felt something, and I think my bro-in-law described it best: "You're kinda just wondering; do I wanna be high? do i wanna..and then you do something stupid, like you would probably do high." For him, he kept dropping stupid small stuff. Change, a lighter, his keys. It was kinda like being mentally together, and then having your body turn around and say fuck that.
With that I made 9 pills, had a left over mixture but then I finally decided to man up about it and get all the supplies I would really need. I already had the capsules, the filler machine, and a straw (it actually fits perfectly in the pills, no mess), but I went all in and went out and bough a coffee grinder, crock pot and a candy thermometer. All in all it cost me about 45 bucks. Currently I'm trying the crockpot method, using a coffee cup for my container (the mason jar is way too curvy to get all the oil out, and the hump is really starting to irk me) and I'll letcha guys know how they turn out.
A little off topic; but someone should try making brownies using the EVCO. It just makes sense, to me, that if this oil is better for extracting, using smaller ammounts to get the same effects as compared to brownies, then they should make brownies that much better. Anyone want to experiment with me?
Btw; all this from one pill. Lol gotta love cooking
