I keep noticing many threads asking if you can use stems or leaves to make brownies so I figured I would make this little guide.
To answer the question at hand...yes you can use stems and leaves to make brownies. The entire marijuana plant contains THC, however the stems and leaves do not contain nearly as much as the buds.
What you will need:
Box of brownie mix(I like to use the kind that requires oil eggs and water)
1-1 1/2 oz of stems or leaves or bud (the more the better)
Bag of mini chocolate chips
Vegetable or canola oil
Eggs
Water
Baking dish Pyrex works best(cooking times for different sizes will vary and should be listed on the brownie mix)
Mixing bowl
Mixer(I use an electric one)
Measuring cups
Small sauce pan
Stove
Oven
Coffee grinder(not necessary but useful)
Tea strainer or coffee filters
Wooden toothpicks
What to do:
Grind down your stems/leaves...the finer the better...coffee grinder comes in real handy.
Look to see how much oil is needed and measure out that much and pour into sauce pan.
Dump your stems/leaves/bud in.
Set your stove on it's lowest possible setting and let it simmer for 1-3 hours stirring occasionally. If your concoction starts to turn brown turn the heat down or take it off the heat and let it cool. When it turns brown that's bad.
When you feel as if you have simmered your stems/leaves long enough take off the heat and let it cool off completely.
Use your teastrainer(my preferred method) or coffee filter to get all of the grindage out of the oil and then get the oil back into measuring cup...some of the oil might have cooked down. If you need a little more to make the whole measurement for the recipe then add it.
After that just follow the directions on the back of the brownie box.
I like to add 1/2 cup of mini cocolate chips to enhance the flavor of the end product but it isn't necessary.
I've noticed that when I make these that the brownies usually take a little longer than the box says. Start out at the appropriate time and bake longer if needed.
To see if they are done take a toothpick and stick it in the middle of the brownies. If they're done there should be little to no chocolatey residue on the tooth pick.
Let them cool off and enjoy.
I hope this helps all of you guys who have a leaf or stem surplus, or just wanna make some bud brownies.
