Methylphenidate is a mild Central Nervous System Stimulant which is hypothesized to work by activating the brainstem arousal system and cerebral cortex. It is used to treat attention deficit disorder in many children. In some children with ADD, CNS stimulants can decrease motor restlessness, increase attention span and improve concentration. In adults it can lead to increased motor activity and mental alertness, decreased fatigue, a cheerier outlook, and mild euphoria. Methylphenidate is also used in the treatment of narcolepsy, mild depression, apathy and withdrawal in the elderly, and in combination with other drugs in the treatment of chronic pain.
Perfect.
To answer your other questions though, ritalin is not physically addictive, and I find it better to snort just a little bit to get a quick effect then eat a larger dose for longer lasting effects. Ritalin calms me down, helps me concentrate, and rarely ever gives me any trouble with side-effects.

If you have ADD, which is a embalance of a chemical in the brain, then it calms you and allows you to concentrate. If you don't have ADD then it has effects similar to speed.

If you are looking for which one is the best to use recreationally my best advice is go for aderol, if snorted your body has a hard time physically telling the difference between that and cocaine (but it comparison aderol is quite milder).
