I remember seeing on a Truth or some anti drug campaign commercial that one joint is the same as 4 ciggarettes worth of nicotine/tar (it was 4 times as much something, i jsut cant remember, but I think it was nicotine or tar). Someone explain.

It's 4 times as much tar. Nicotine isn't in marijuana, only tobacco. I'm not sure about how many cigarettes is equal to one marijuana joint because of all the numbers people throw around, I've heard there is no difference, that 1 joint = 4 cigarettes, that 1 joint = 10 cigarettes, I've heard a lot. I honestly don't think it's that bad, I think most of that is just scare tactics.

Size of the joint doesnt vary all that much, you can only fit so much into a little paper. However cigars are a different story entirely ;)

Yeah, theres all these different rules... 1 joint = 10, 5, a pack of cigs, etc, but it is true, there is more tar in weed than in a cig. I'd think that one reason you get more tar is because smoking without a filter (minus bongs) gives you pure smoke, rather than cigs which have some sort of a filter on them. I woudln't say that the weed potency has to do with the tar, but just the plant in general. There's some really dry light stuff that doesn't have as much tar as the sticky heavy buds with alot of matter in them.

How many cigarettes does the average smoker consume in a week VS. how many joints the average marijuana smoker consumes in a week. If one were to smoke marijuana like cigarettes, it would be virtually insane.

That's DEFINATELY a factor, which means if you look at it that way, marijuana really isn't any worse than cigarettes because cigarette users are going to be smoking multiple cigarettes a day, every day of the week. Marijuana users are going to smoke 1-2 joints maybe 1-2 times a week, unless you're a pot head. So using marjijuana every once and a while isn't going to be any more harmful than smoking cigarettes. This is something the government and the TRUTH commericials fail to tell you :mad:

If you're worried about tar, use a water pipe.
I'm not sure EXACTLY how much the water filters out, I'm no pro. But I would imagine its quite a bit less than smoking it straight.

My parents need to read that shit. Maybe then theyd get off my fucking back about smoking weed. It's so fucked up...they suspected me of smoking even before I started, and they haven't even fucking caught me but they have just accepted that I do it and now go out of their way to make my life a living hell.
