Snipping the tip

Ok well I heard that if you snip the tip the plant turns into a Y Shape, I was interested in doing this since it would save me room in height, but I need help on how/when to do it
My plant is about 1 week old 2 inches above the soil and with 1 row of marijuana leaves
When will it be ready to do this?
Also how exactly do you do it, I'd like accurate directions so I won't mess up
And also does it produce more bud?

Removing the apical meristem does make the plant grow out due to the fact that this meristem produces the hormone auxin. Auxin is the hormone that makes a plant grow up wards, removing this ( the top of plant) means the plant puts more energy into bushing outwards instead of growing taller. Just clip the little bud( not Bud) from the top of the main stem...you could go down to the next node where a branch emerges.

You have to wait until there are at least 4 leaves, if you top the plant now you will kill it. DO NOT top the plant until 2-3 weeks, and there are smaller growth tips appearing in the lower nodes.
