View Full Version : Panic/Anxiety Attack after smoking?

So two nights ago I smoked weed for the first time. I was with some friends at one of their houses and everything was real chill and relaxed. People started smoking and I figured that this was the best time to try it since I was with my closest friends. I took a full hit from my friend's bong and held it in for a while. Then after exhaling we all returned to hanging out. About twenty minutes later I got dizzy and started feeling light headed. There was an intense tingling sensation in the back of my head that made me curl up into a fetal position in my chair. My two friends I was with started freaking out and didn't know what to do. They stood me up and helped me over to my car where we stood for about an hour. I could barely talk or move because I was hyperventilating and really paranoid about dying or bad things happening to me and the two friends. Half an hour later (an hour and a half after curling up in the chair) I was feeling better like I was really drunk. I had only had six beers that night which isn't a lot for me so something must have mixed wrong between the beer and the weed. Does this happen to a lot of people? How can I prevent it the next time I smoke?

We all have them, don't let it stop you though. Its all about state of mind, involve yourself in conversations and stuff, just be active.
Wow man.
Bad idea.
Dont drink and smoke when you are new. Definatly would have been too intense.
Next time, smoke less, don't go and stand around your fucking car (why would they do that anyway???) just chill, sit around and listen to some music and DEFINATLY DONT drink before hand.
You have to ease into that.
And as a general rule, if you are gonna smoke and drink, Smoke FIRST.

Thanks guys. We relocated to my car because our campfire was making me nauseous and my car was just parked in his driveway and figured it was a better spot to figure out what the fuck was wrong with me. They were both ripped at the time anyway so perhaps it made sense to them. I remember a saying I saw back on here a while ago "beer before bong and youre in the wrong, bong before beer and you're in the clear" but I had heard other similar sayings just the other way around, drinking before hand is better and what not but apparently not so. Hopefully the next time won't be so rough.

I get anxiety attacks in general, just because im screw'd up like that, but if I have one while smoking, it makes it worse.

Ive had anxiety attacks from weed a few times (green outs.) Just be calm. I like to imagine Jules from pulp fiction saying "Bitch, be cool! Tell that bitch to chill"! (diner scene/ pulp fiction).
Basically it means you smoked a bit too much, but if you understand that it happens and youll be fine you wont freak out.

The other night I smoked 3 bowls and was feeling pretty good. Then I came down to the pitt and tried to goto sleep and I started here like twigs breaking and shit outside my door and started having a pretty good paranoia attack.
But, you know, sometimes it happends. It only lasted like 15 minutes so it wasn't too crazy.
I always think someones just outside the door waiting to kill me, weed just helps me go into details.

my friend got that once real bad. i was able to talk him down because he trusts me real hard and I was a pot head and he wasn't. Infact he didn't smoke for over a year afterwards. Infact, it was just last week that i got him to smoke again. I dont know why some people get them and others don't. Sucks balls tho

I don't consider it an anxiety attack but when I was first learning to take gravity bongs I decided to quit smoking for a while, just to prove that I could. It was my last day to smoke before quitting and I took this monster GB lol
All I remember is going inside and laying down in the fetal position and wanting to go to sleep. My friend thought I was going to die but I really just wanted to take a nap, lol. Next memory is he was making a pizza and I walked into the kitchen to sit down and my vision just fogged up and it looked like the house was on fire because it was so foggy, but I kept walking and walked into the chair and fell over, lol. The last thing I remember is we watched Lady and the Tramp, which I only remember like two minutes of.
Sorry rambled but I felt like typing aha
when i get proper baked then take public transport e.g. a PACKED bus. then i get paranoid that everyone is looking at the stoned guy, other then that im less paranoid when i smoke

I've been smoking for almost 2 years and I'd say so far I've been having panic and anxiety attacks for about a year. I'm a really pessimistic person and used to always have very negative thoughts. I really enjoyed getting high for a long time but then while high I would think about stuff like "Why is my heart beating so fast?", "What if all these people actually hate me?" Shit like that and I would have panic attacks, just like yours.
One of the most crucial things I forgot about smoking weed is that you can't go into the high with negative thoughts or expecting something bad to happen. When you do that you mentally tell your body to prepare for something incredibly bad to happen, so your body reacts by pumping adrenaline (making you feel like your dying/choking/etc.). Thinking positive thoughts and staying active and distracted helps immensely even if you don't believe what you're saying.
I found out the hard way, but its all in the attitude :D

well basically whenever you smoke whatever you smoked just hits the wrong nerves and it can trigger an anxiety attack. i don't know specifics but if i did i would tell you guys. sometimes you can get anxiety permenantly. ive never had one of the anxiety attacks while smoking though.

You can't GET anxiety permanently, everyone "has" it and feels it, we all just react to it differently. In sensitive people and people already prone to anxious thoughts weed can become a catalyst for a mental disorder, like post traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia, etc. but apparently its a really low percentage of people (like 2%).
Either way, anxiety is harmless so its never anything to worry about.

*I've deleted this post, because I was referring to a post that has since been deleted, so this makes no sense anymore haha.*

Weed makes people peaceful, and I'm pretty sure no one has died from it haha. And paranoia generally only effects younger people whose brains aren't fully developed.
Once again, read the site motto, and you'll realize how wrong you are. Hell, go moan at terrorists or child abusers, the people who are ACTUALLY causing a problem in the world.

Bro don't even bother.

Haha Falcon0r. But the the OP, maybe try blazing by yourself if possible. I know when i started smoking dude, everything i have was just amazingly entertaining. Computer, game systems, music.. all shit that you might have at your house would for sure give you a good fun experience since your a new smoker.
I totally didn't even notice the major thread necro going on in here.

The first time you smoke you always freak out, I remember the first time I smoked I was at a friends house and his mom came home early. Thats about as worse as it gets I instantly started freaking out thinking that she could smell it on me. Then when I began calming down I just left and it was over.

Yeah, I'm also a beginner smoker myself and usually I either get a bit nauseous or anxiety comes ripping through. I usually just end up talking alot and alot about anything nd that really helps me calm my nerves down.
