View Full Version : Might be looking for a mod or two....

As some of you may have noticed, the last two months have been a period of rapid user growth -- our moderation staff is having some degree of difficulty keeping up with all of the new faces. We have a couple of things "in the works" that we'll need help with. So I thought I'd give all of you a head's up.

And, to boot, the position is likely to be the illustrious "Hot Box" position.

Here's what I'll be looking for:
1) Noted record of harm reduction encouragement as opposed to "lol letz get fukked up!11"
2) High post count with majority of posts being knowledgable, courteous, and well written
3) Completed resume (format to be announced)
4) A compilation of all herb related FAQs into one megaFAQ, giving credit to individuals that contributed to each portion of the megaFAQ

That last one is why I'm announcing it early. We will be requiring every applicant to go through the FAQ section, prune the section for herb related threads, and create one thread that encompasses all of the information for that subject compiled here at D&B. Thread will be rated on layout/design and completeness.

Q. Isn't that a lot of work?

A. Yup, sure is. Being a mod is a lot of work -- in addition to wrangling posts, we each have at least one additional task that we're completing. If you're not prepared to do work (and even have some of that work disposed of when we decide to move in another direction), we don't want you on staff. If you can't make a time commitment, we don't want you on staff. We've finally compiled a group of solid individuals, and I would like to continue to see it grow into a well oiled machine.

Q. What do you mean by harm reduction?

A. The whole point of this forum is to keep people from fucking themselves over and not about that one time when you combined 3 CNS depressants with a stimulant and woke up somewhere across town without any pants on. We permit (and even encourage) that sort of discussion, but staff has decided that in future, we'd prefer staff members not to have a large history of irresponsible use.

Any other questions?

What do you mean by completed resume? And how do you get the e with the little line over it for a proper spelling?

Here's a nice long list of all the accent mark and diacriticals available to you by using the alt key plus a string of numbers. http://www.starr.net/is/type/altnum.htm

I remember months back you made a post about needing a Hot Box mod, Ollie, but you never appointed one. Good to see it looks like it's finally gonna happen. Lucky for me, I had already started working on making a megaFAQ for the hot box, so this is a bit more incentive to get it completed.

Resume requirements will be posted later. If you wanted to apply and get started, I highly suggest beginning work on creating your mega-FAQ now.

I was clinging to the hope that PaulT would return from his personal issues, but the time has come and past when I was expecting him back (end of last month). Since he's not here, I can now take action -- I'm not a slacker ALL of the time. :)

I think I would be a pretty good mod, as I've modded other forums when I was younger. I'm unsure of the responsibility though. I'll still throw in my vast knowledge of mind altering substances of course and provide help to all who need it. :]

But, if you do think I would be a good choice for a mod position, let me know and notify me of tasks and such, and if I'm not completely blazed I might be interested. But lots of work, sounds like lots of work...

Weed doesn't get enough of my knowledge for me to be a decent mod for the Hot Box, but if you offered for The Mind's Eye, I think I could fill a position

I know A LOT of shit about weed.
Pardon my french, but I am still confused on this Mega Thread Thing.
I might have just read it wrong, but it would be great if you can explain it a little more.
Sorry.

The basic idea on the Mega Thread is, that we have so much information in our current FAQ's about pot that it's hard to find it all.

Essentially, we want one huge thread, the Marijuana Mega Thread, which contains all this information in one thread.

You don't have to create all this information by yourself, but you can incorporate existing FAQs in your megathread, giving credit to the original posters of course.

Ollie, as I complete sections of the Mega Thread, should I go ahead and start a thread, and post sections one at a time (I have 6 chapters,) or should I wait until it is completely finished? And, on the same note, are we going to be posting them when done/along the way or are we going to send them to you for "judging" and then it gets posted after the mod is selected? You really didn't elaborate that much on it, so I needed to clarify.

If you happen to complete a compilation of every thread in the FAQs section having to do with weed, please PM it to me -- don't post it. Wouldn't want anyone trying to plagurize. :)

Thats what I was thinking, but I just thought I'd ask anyhow. Thanks OC.

Edit: Ollie, I'm wondering if our forum BBCode has any codes for tables? I checked the codes list in the FAQ, but I didn't see anything for them, and I know that not everythings listed there (example:[size=+x] code.) It'd be very helpful :D

No, we don't have a VBcode for tables and there's no option for it under the menu. There is a hack available, however.
