I want to try shrooms so instead of buying some I was just going to go pick some because of the million cows here. I heard to wait 2 days after it rains (rained hard yesterday) but what exactly do I look for and what do I take? Like what part do I take out and how much do I need to take?
Im really inexperienced and the other guy going with me has also never done it... So.. help?

This is the most important piece of information for you:
The Shroomery (http://www.shroomery.org/wiki/pmwiki.php/Hunting/MushroomHunting)
Be aware that some fungi are very poisonous and many others may make you unwell. Some people have allergic reactions after eating certain species. Make quite sure you can identify fungi by attending a field course or foray led by an expert before you start collecting.
This can't be stressed enough. You should *not* be collecting without someone experienced teaching you how. "Little brown mushrooms" (LBMs) can be deadly poisonous instead of wonderfully hallucinogenic. In fact, most mycologists classify them as the most difficult to identify.
But the Shroomery Wiki on hunting here: http://www.shroomery.org/wiki/pmwiki.php/Hunting/MushroomHuntingFAQ
is awesome if you have some curiousity on the subject. But seriously, take someone with you. Dying by eating the wrong mushroom is supposed to be an extremely unpleasant death.

A friend of mine and I picked a shit load down in Alabama once, but we didn't plan on eating any of them until we had someone who knew their shit look at them. We never got that far though, ended up having to ditch because of his dad.
Mmmm. Id really suggest against doing that. If you really want to beat dealers prices, maybe try growing them yourself?

How do I get it?
And damn, I was hoping it'd be as easy as just going to a cow feild and taking the shrooms out of cow shit. Nothing can be easy.... :)

I think it can be that easy if you are an experienced mushroom expert.
But then again, apparently alot of magic mushrooms have a 'brother' that looks alot like it but is toxic. IN DE BAD WAY!
Not a safe idea at all if you ask me, there are SO many poisonous mushrooms about.
You need someone with experience to help you for the first few times.

Definitely agree there, I would read up everything on Erowid on shrooms, get lots of info and everything. I don't think even then it'll be enough though. You can never tell with Shrooms. Do you know anyone who could tell you if they're actual mushrooms or not?

This is pretty much your bible for identifying mushrooms in the field:

Some parts of the country grow blue saucers (forget the technical name -- we never get 'em) which are easier to identify. But I wouldn't try it without help.

What if I picked a certain kind that I see the most of, then show someone that knows a little about them? Or post pics here?
And how do I get the materials to just grow them myself?

Most of the materials to grow them yourself can be found in department/grocery/gardening stores, except for spore syringes which can be found at a bunch of online dealers. An easy way to start growing (although not the best or most potent), would be the PF Tek, found here: http://www.shroomery.org/index.php/par/23593
It's pretty simple, you just gotta be careful and VERY patient.
please do not post links to spore providers - jf

I would rather not have anyone try to identify mushrooms over this forum for the same reason we do not allow pill IDs - if someone were to make a mistake the results could be deadly.

The materials are readily available, you can pick up just about everything you need at your local WalMart. It is a simple and relatively inexpensive process. You can start on a very low budget, a couple hundred dollars, and unlike picking up supplies for a meth lab or a the materials to start growing pot, the supplies are completely innocent. All you need is a pressure cooker, some grain, perlite, vermiculite, measuring cups, containers like wide mouthed canning jars or glass brownie trays, a cooler or large rubbermaid bin, and your spores. You may even have most of what you need in your attic, garage, or basement.

I found someone that knows about mushrooms that will go with me. Thanks anyway. He said the ones he always picks have rings at the top of the stem.

For the record, this isn't an accurate way of identifying LBMs (little brown mushrooms). That ring is the reminants of what is called a "veil", and is left over at the end the maturation cycle of most mushrooms -- not just p. cubensis.
It's worth noting that "blue saucers" (p. cyan...eses? can't check spelling, I'm at work) are much easier to identify. Depending on your locale, this may actually be what you're hunting for.
You should really take a spore print if you're picking LBMs. It's the only reliable way to test for species. Takes like an extra day.
If I were you I'd just buy an 8th. It's only 20 bucks, and paying that is worth more than paying for a fucked up stomach.

Im not saying that's how he identifies them. But he's done it several times, im sure he knows what to get. And I got to do it quick because he's in the Marines and being sent off soon :(
